Patriots Match Best Winning Streak From Brady Era with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five touchdowns during the current campaign
The New England Patriots equaled their best victory streak from the Brady period as they defeated AFC East opponents the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the New England squad claimed an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the franchise in 2019
Signal-caller Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory bolsters the New England's lead at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to finish the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots answered in the second period as the rookie ran in two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the back of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be great."
Justin Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side sealed the win
