The US Firm's Self-Driving Taxis Planned for London Roads Next Year.

The US-based firm Waymo has announced that its autonomous cabs will be on offer for booking on London's thoroughfares beginning next year.

London will emerge as the inaugural European city to introduce an driverless taxi service, similar to those already in use in multiple US cities and several American urban centers using Waymo's cutting-edge systems.

Waymo stated that its cars are currently traveling to London and will commence operating on the capital's streets in the coming weeks with experienced operators behind the wheel.

The company – initially established as a spin-off from Google's self-driving car project and part of the larger corporate umbrella – stated it would increase activities and work closely with the UK transport authorities and the city's mobility organization to acquire the necessary approvals to provide completely driverless services by 2026.

Other companies, including Uber and the UK-based tech company Wayve, have also declared their own plans to test self-driving vehicles in the capital next year.

This comes after the government officials confirming it would speed up regulations allowing public trials to proceed before laws supporting self-driving vehicles becomes law in full.
